Matterhorn MRO-6051 UV 6-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System combines the benefits of RO filtration with UV disinfection, making it the most effective water purification system in its class. These stages of filtration plus a final disinfection stage create pure, microbiologically safe drinking water. The process starts by passing water through a 5-micron polypropylene pre-filter cartridge. The pre-filter cartridge captures particulate matter, like rust while also preventing the filtration systems from clogging with fine debris. Next, the water flows through two 5-micron organic coconut shell activated carbon block cartridges. The cartridges then remove taste and odors caused by chlorine and chloramine disinfection chemicals. Chlorinated water is a health hazard because the disinfection process can cause the formation of carcinogenic by-products. Even if you have unchlorinated well water, natural taste and odor causing substances can make the water undrinkable. Both water types have been found to be contaminated with pharmaceuticals, herbicides, insecticides and industrial chemicals. All these contaminants are removed by the activated carbon cartridges. The water is now ready for the reverse osmosis process. The water is passed through a spiral-wound thin film composite membrane. Contents are then removed while purified water passes through the membrane.
