Occasionally during shipping the filtration media inside the cartridges settles and inadvertently causes an air bubble to form inside the cartridge during early stages of use. We recommend a slight tap or two on top of the filter to release any air bubbles. Moving forward, a quick shake or two when installing new cartridges before and during the installation process as outlined on the side of the retail box will be very helpful. Why after several days or weeks of use my Great Value water pitcher cartridge starts to slow down and actually take longer to filter tap water? In many parts of the country sediments are known for prematurely clogging water filters resulting in slower flow. This is actually good as it means your filter is working! To fix simply remove your Great Value water pitcher cartridge and thoroughly rinse upside down under tap water. The backwards water flow will “back flush” the cartridge and remove sediments enabling full use of the filters life cycle. Why does my Great Value water pitcher cartridge have a different looking box than before? We’ve improved packaging to better distinguish the differences between the original item and a newly added item that will also reduce heavy metals such as lead and volatile organic compounds commonly found in many tap water supplies. Why does the new Great Value water pitcher cartridge (WFGVC200, WFGVC204) that reduces lead take longer to fill the pitcher? Drinking water contaminants such as lead and volatile organic compounds can be very harmful if consumed over long periods of time, especially with young children or the elderly. To remove these contaminants takes about twice as long as the original Great Value pitcher cartridge. This is normal and to be expected. Why does the filtered water still not taste very good? All Great Value water pitcher cartridges are tested and certified by the Water Quality Association for the removal of chlorine, taste and odor per NSF/ANSI Standard 42. Please make sure the installation instructions on the side of each retail box have been followed to pre-condition the filter and verify the filter is properly seated into the pitcher water reservoir port to prevent bypass of unfiltered water.
